Tour Description

GUIDED TOUR of PHLEGREAN FIELDS

This volcanic region extends west of Naples on the bay of Pozzuoli from Capo Posillipo to Capo Miseno.
In the first century A.D .it was considered the most chic area in the Roman empire, where patricians, senators, emperors and generals spent their holidays.
Surrounded by volcanic lakes, it is the source of many legends, most of all that of Cumaean Sibyl, a priestess important in ancient Roman legend.
The areas to visit include: ancient Cuma, Pozzuoli, one of the most important and prosperous Roman ports in the Mediterranean, Baia, a Roman thermal site and Miseno, the site of the homonymous fleet in imperial times.
